Our UX/UI explained
A well-designed UI and UX are crucial for a positive and accessible user experience (WCAG 2.1 AA). We focus on ease of use because we believe a simple and intuitive UI is vital for user engagement. The app's structure (and organisation of content and data) stimulates content discovery and gives users an intuitive look and feel. The app's navigation is simple and effective.
Homepage
The user enters VD OTT on the homepage, inviting them to explore the app's content. The homepage has a featured shelf with some of the most relevant and current content.
Next are the shelves with content lists that can be composed manually or ‘smart’. Smart lists are formed based on tags, metadata, etc. Favourites can be presented on a shelf.
Live streams and EPG: The homepage highlights a planned live stream. In the Electronic Program Guide (EPG), users can see what will be (live) streamed and when.
Content discovery
Our effective search tools allow users to find desired content quickly:
Visual Browsing: We enable visual browsing: every piece of content has its own card, making content visually recognisable and discoverable.
Search: When a user is looking for specific content, the search function will help find it. The search function is accessible from every app page and easy to use.
Recommendations: Users can get personalised recommendations based on the videos they have watched. We can automatically suggest videos that will most likely extend a viewer's watch session.
Trailer: The trailer function allows the user to preview the content, which could help the user decide what to watch.
Geo-targeting: With the geo-targeting feature, the offered content is adjusted to the location from which the user is watching, making the suggestions more suitable.
Play video
Timeline scrubbing: Thanks to the intuitive player interface, users can easily scan a video for a specific moment. By clicking on the timeline, thumbnail previews of that moment in the video pop up, helping users to navigate through the video quickly.
Casting: Once they have found what to watch, users can either play the content in the player or cast it to TV.
Subtitles: In the player, users can select the option to show subtitles in the video and the language in which they want the subtitles.
Multi audio tracks
Multi-Device Support: This feature ensures the app works across various devices, including smart TVs and mobile devices.
Continue Watching: The continue-watching feature allows you to watch your video on any device on which you have installed the app.
Personalisation
Multi-language: The language of the app and the content can be easily adjusted by the user on the homepage.
Favourites: Favourites are shown on a shelf on the homepage. Users can add and delete favourite content to and from their account within the user account settings.
Personal account: Every user has a user account in which they can choose their preferred settings for profiles, payments, subscriptions, etc.
QR: The login and subscription process on TV is easy with the QR code to start the login process.
Share: With the share button, users can share content with their network.
